Radio Boise presents the Couch Surfer Series, a monthly event featuring talk and performance with writers, artists, and musicians in the Radio Boise studios. Every second Sunday of the month, creators will talk about their craft, perform and read their work for a live audience.

September features local author Alan Heathcock and local musicians from Hillfolk Noir, with hosting moderator local author Christian Winn.

Beer and wine will be available for purchase with ID and all proceeds benefit KRBX Radio Boise.

Tickets are $10 and are limited, find them at or through this event listing. Doors open at 5:30 pm, event begins at 6 and runs until 8 with an intermission at 7 pm.

ABOUT ALAN HEATHCOCK: Alan Heathcock’s VOLT was a “Best Book” selection from numerous newspapers and magazines, including GQ, Publishers Weekly, Salon, the Chicago Tribune, and Cleveland Plain Dealer, was named as a New York Times Editors’ Choice, selected as a Barnes and Noble Best Book of the Month, as well as a finalist for the Barnes and Noble Discover Prize. Heathcock has won a Whiting Award, the GLCA New Writers Award, a National Magazine Award, has been awarded fellowships from the National Endowment for the Arts, the Sewanee Writers’ Conference, the Bread Loaf Writers’ Conference, the Lannan Foundation, and the Idaho Commission on the Arts. A native of Chicago, he lives and works in Boise, Idaho.

ABOUT HILLFOLK NOIR: Fronted by singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Travis Ward, Hillfolk Noir is a trio of neo-traditionalists playing traditional music on traditional instruments for non-traditional times. They call it Junkerdash, and it’s a sound brewed from folk, bluegrass, punk, string-band blues and other influences musical and otherwise. Recommended pairings: Drinking and dancing.

ABOUT CHRISTIAN WINN: Recently named as Idaho’s Writer in Residence, he was born in Eugene, Oregon, and grew up in Palo Alto, California and the Seattle area. He now lives in Boise, Idaho where he writes and teaches with The Cabin, and the College of Idaho’s Creative Writing Department. He is the co-founder and Creative Director of Storyfort, Campfire Stories, and founder of the Writers Write fiction workshop series, which has been in operation since the summer of 2003. He is a graduate of Seattle Pacific University, and the Boise State University MFA program.

Each month a local guest moderator will host a discussion and performance with the featured artists and writers on the couch in Radio Boise’s live performance studio. This series marks the first time that Radio Boise is opening their studio doors as a ticketed performance venue, with the mission of deepening the natural relationship between community radio and the local music and arts scenes. Local author and Storyfort Creative Director Christian Winn curates the series again in its new venue for the 2017-2018 season.
Upcoming performers, authors, and hosts include Sun Blood Stories, Emma Arnold, Frankie Barnhill, Diane Raptosh, Nick Delffs, RE Zickau, and Tom Franklin.
