STAFF

In the basement of the Alaska Center in Downtown Boise, you’ll find our paid and volunteer staff sustaining and growing the independent spirit and function of the Treasure Valley’s only community radio station – 89.9 and 93.5 FM and online at radioboise.org.

Radio Boise is located at 1020 West Main Street, Suite 50 in the lower level, Boise, Idaho.

General Manager, Station Director

Radio Boise’s General Manager Jessica grew up in Boise, graduated from Boise High School, and earned a bachelor’s degree in Psychology and Creative Writing from the College of Idaho. She went on to the University of Denver, where she earned a master’s degree in Mass Communications and Public Relations. Prior to joining the Radio Boise team in April of 2015, Jessica worked with federal agencies and nonprofits for 15 years, spending several seasons as a wilderness ranger before transitioning into volunteer coordination, fundraising and nonprofit administration for several community-based environmental stewardship organizations in Colorado. An incurable optimist when it comes to the ability of inspirational nonprofits to harness community spirit and broadcast the voices found across the dial of human experience, she likes to try and turn it up to 11 at Radio Boise every day.

Program Director, Production Manager

Wayne is a hopeless radiophile, having been a student programmer at student-run KBSU in the 80s, then working commercially at Boise station KIDO, before joining the Radio Boise effort in 2005. Besides his role with Radio Boise, Wayne has an MFA in Creative Writing from Eastern Washington University, has published a handful of short stories and is prone to unreasonably long backpacking and rock climbing trips. He calls it his long-range therapy for his longstanding pathology for community radio.

Elizabeth started as a volunteer programmer at Radio Boise in 2008, and has been heavily involved ever since. Having grown up in Boise, she is passionate about developing community throughout the city, especially in music and the arts. She received a BA in Communication from Boise State with an emphasis on organizational management while developing event and personnel management skills at Radio Boise and Treefort Music Fest. It’s easy to find her at a local music show downtown, but she also loves to sneak away to the mountains with her husband and two sons as often as possible.

Music Director

After honing her love for Indie Rock music and live performances in small dive bars as a DJ at University of Idaho’s KUOI while earning her BA in English Literature, Nichole Marie knew the then online-only “Boise Community Radio Project” would become a great part of her life with one quick tour. Excited by the idea of helping the grassroots organization grow, she was encouraged to volunteer during Radiothon. From there, she subbed on-air and was eventually given the opportunity to host her own show Tuesday afternoons [The Rapture]. Nichole Marie then also assisted in a newly established music library before being named Music Director in 2018. (She even met her now-husband at KRBX while recording a promo.)

Operation Manager

Brian hails from Southern Arizona where he was a volunteer and avid listener of KXCI Community Radio in Tucson. Brian moved to Idaho in 2002. Frustrated with the lack of community radio in the Treasure Valley, Brian discovered Radio Boise in 2009 and in the fall of that year began volunteering with the station, doing his weekly show, Global Grooves. In 2011, Brian was part of the first night of live broadcasting on KRBX. He became staff in 2013, while attending Boise State University, pursuing a bachelors degree in Media Production. He graduated in December 2014 from Boise State. Brian has assisted with many aspects of Radio Boise including automation, production, programming and is currently the Operations Manager, keeping the station in compliance with the FCC.

Debra Cooper

Volunteer and Events Coordinator
dcooper [at] radioboise.org

Debra is an Idaho native who discovered her love of music by sneaking into her older siblings rooms and listening to their vinyl collections. But it was while earning a BFA in Visual Art and History from the University of North Carolina where she was baptized into the waters of live music, college radio and a thriving art community. Special events planning was her first post-graduate job and has led her to work with art museums, non-profits and creatives across the country. She was listening when Radio Boise launched on the FM dial in 2011 and has been smitten ever since. She most enjoys Radio Boise’s diversity in programming and listenership. Debra is profoundly excited to grow events that reflect this diversity and connect the community at large. She can be spotted on the dance floor at most parties and concerts, much to the embarrassment and horror of her two beloved teenagers.

Live Performance / In-Studio Guest Liaison
dmanion [at] radioboise.org

A simultaneous plunge into the parallel worlds of Boise’s potent 90s all-ages punk scene and Borah High School’s music program gave Dave Manion a relatively early hands-on awakening to the huge variety of music found outside of commercial radio’s narrow scope. While continuing his longtime involvement in the music community as a performer and educator, Dave has found himself fully bitten by the community radio “bug”. In his role as In-Studio Liaison, he coordinates on-air interviews and performances by artists, organizations and individuals, with the goal of helping to draw attention to the threads of arts, culture and service that may be overlooked by traditional commercial media.

Social Media Manager
chris [at] radioboise.org

Upon moving to Boise in 2016, Radio Boise’s office was one of the very first places this Midwest native visited. He then just never left the station! DeRoin began DJing and managing local Hip-Hop acts as a college freshman at Briar Cliff University in Sioux City, Iowa while earning a bachelor of arts in Business Administration & Marketing. His passion for helping independent artists spread their message hasn’t slowed down since. Fun facts: DeRoin is also a fan favorite basketball official and will kick your butt in Scrabble.
