2018 Voluntees and Programmer of the Year

Clockwise from top left: Colby, Dan, Casey, Haley are the the best and brightest at KRBX for 2018!

This year’s Practice New Year’s Eve Party was an incredible way to cap off 2018! The generosity of Radio Boise volunteers and supporters blows us away every time. We are so grateful to everyone who helped us out in any way all year.

We’d like to extend extra special thanks and recognize our 2018 Volunteers and Programmer of the Year!

Congratulations to Haley Thomason for being named a Radio Boise 2018 Volunteer of the Year! Her consistent and cheerful help with every electric car raffle event, tirelessly driving the Fiat where it needed to be in the morning hours, and talking with thousands of people about community radio more than put her contributions over the top. But Haley’s volunteer outreach work was also a very big part of the increase we saw in donors during Fall 2018 Radiothon!

Casey Scales is one rare animal: brilliant and well-versed in IT, but also a good teacher. Countless times we’ve asked him to help us troubleshoot the small and not-small-way glitches at the station, and each time he has come through (including with a big server overhaul in 2018), not only with the issue fixed, but with us being a little more self-sufficient. The infectious smile on his face is always welcome, even when he isn’t checking up on station tech needs! (Casey Scales, aka DJ KC Jonez, co-hosts The Underground on Saturdays from 11 PM-1 AM.)

Major high fives to Volunteer Board Member of the Year Daniel Glynn for doing so much around the station beyond his program, including being on the live remote broadcasting team, serving on the board of directors, and giving many, many compassionate hours of volunteered professional and legal services throughout the year! (Daniel Glynn, aka Dan DeLion, hosts Riff Häven on Tuesdays from 9-11 PM.)

Finally, sometimes someone comes in and contributes so immediately you sort of forget about their consistent contribution. When thinking back on our history, we thought about the tasks in particular and how the things that move the needle are often done by the same dedicated person. This fella basically began our music library, was one of the first to program our late night automation, hosted a bunch of shows when our program schedule was full of gaps, hosted one of our first iconic shows, The Sunday Soul Party, and now has reinvented himself as the host of a mix show. He also helps with remote broadcasts, Radiothons, and plenty of other events. Radio Boise’s 2018 Programmer of the Year is Colby Spath (aka DJ Dusty C.) of The Uncertain Radio Programme (Saturdays from 3-5 PM).

These folks, and many like them, are literally what makes community radio happen in the Treasure Valley. It is not something our small staff could do. Without volunteers, there is no KRBX!

Thank you!
