Learn Radio Storytelling

The Voices Project aims to put more voices on the Radio Boise airwaves through empowering citizens to become audio storytellers. While producing 4-minute radio features during weekend-long “radio race” intensives, participants learn interviewing, production and music-mixing skills.

Drawing from podcasting techniques and the music-base at Radio Boise, we aim to experiment with new ways of presenting human interest-based stories about topics of relevance to the community. These stories are not news, but methods that draw from journalistic traditions, aiming to strengthen the media production arm of Radio Boise.

Radio Races

You’ll learn how to make radio by doing it. Inspired by KCRW’s international Radio Race, Radio Boise has developed its own brand of radio races where producers create feature-length radio stories on broad-based themes. In November 2016, teams produced more than half a dozen stories on the theme “My Ecosystem.”

The next Radio Race is Feb. 11 and 12 at the Radio Boise studios. The theme is “Vacant Space.” An informational meeting to discuss story ideas and meet other producers is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb 1 at Radio Boise.
