Tuned In with Celia Espinoza

Celia Espinoza

Celia represents the very best of the Radio Boise community – she’s passionate, outspoken, and eager to be an active force to impact her community. And all with infectious joy! We’re lucky to have her walk through the station door so often and to share some of her insights with you here.

When did you catch the community radio bug?

I caught the bug back in 2010 when I started getting involved in the Boise community events. I remember seeing Radio Boise hanging out at The Curb Cup so I went home and tuned in. It was love at first listen.

What is it that you appreciate about community radio?

What I love about community radio is, first off, the lack of noisy commercials. What stands out about Radio Boise is its community-oriented approach.

What do you like most about Radio Boise?

Initially, the diversity in the radio’s musical palette is what I fell in love with. Over the years, Radio Boise has become an organic personality and it is something to appreciate. It especially stands out among the mainstream stations. It’s like the rad black sheep of the family (just like me).

Where and when do you listen to Radio Boise?

Music is my oxygen. I listen whenever and wherever. Radio Boise has this gnarly little tool called Current Playlist. I have discovered many artists while listening and taking notes on who is currently being played.

What can’t you get out of your head, music-wise?

Well, at this moment it would be Las Hermanas Garcia’s, β€œLuz de Luna.” These young ladies sound alot like the all-woman band, Mariachi Flor de Toloache, both of which are impressive ensembles.

If you could go backstage for any artist’s show, who would it be and why?

Too many to name!! I would love to chill with A Tribe Called Red. They’ve remixed round dance music with their own brand of electrifying power. The energy that transcends when listening to them really pumps me up.

Where do you see Radio Boise in 5 years?

I see Radio Boise being a model for other community radio stations. The eclectic vibe this radio station puts out is its aesthetic. It’s the Portland, Oregon of all community radio programming.
