Amplify your signal

Business support

Underwriting is how a nonprofit station says thank you to local sponsors on air, without becoming a place that runs commercials. Reach an audience that actually listens.

With more than 15 years on the air, Radio Boise (89.9 & 93.5 FM) is a freeform, listener-supported community radio station for the Treasure Valley and beyond.

As a non-profit radio station, one of the ways Radio Boise funds its programming and general operations is through underwriting support from businesses, foundations, public agencies, and non-profit organizations.

Underwriting is how community radio does "advertising." Your business or organization gets on-air recognition so our listeners know who helps make Radio Boise possible, and Radio Boise gets support to keep independent radio going – all within FCC guidelines. Your underwriting support can be as simple as a few messages promoting an upcoming event, or a regular schedule of spots that run throughout the year.

Frequently Asked Questions

What can my message say?

Underwriting messages aren't commercials. As a noncommercial station, Radio Boise has to follow FCC rules about what we can say on the air, so messages can't include things like prices, sales pitches, or calls to action ("visit today!"). Our staff will work with you to write and record a message that follows FCC rules and our station policy. Our listeners appreciate the difference, and it's a big part of why they trust and support the businesses, nonprofit organizations, and foundations they hear on Radio Boise.

Do I have to be a business to underwrite?

We work with businesses, nonprofits, public agencies, venues, breweries, foundations, and more. If your organization shares values and our commitment to the Treasure Valley community, we'd love to talk.

How much does it cost?

Packages start at $220 and depend on how many messages you'd like and how long they run. Contact us and we'll help you find an option that fits your budget.

How long does an underwriting campaign last?

That's up to you. Some underwriters run a few messages to promote a single event, while others keep spots running throughout the year.

How do I get started?

Contact Jason Beek at [email protected], and we'll walk you through the options.
