since 2011
We’re a people powered radio station dedicated to inspire, inform, and build community. A 501(c)(3) community radio station broadcasting at 89.9 and 93.5 FM, run by the Boise Community Radio Project.
Radio Boise is a community radio station that offers local programming for audiences that mainstream media often overlooks. As a nonprofit, we're funded by grants, listener donations, and underwriting, which means we answer to our members and listeners – not advertisers or record companies.
We're also deeply rooted in Boise's music scene. We play local and regional artists, invite musicians into the studio for live performances and interviews, and bring people together at events like our monthly Singer-Songwriter Showcase. If it's happening in Boise's music community, there's a good chance you'll hear about it on Radio Boise first.
The majority of our programs are put together by volunteers who live here in the Treasure Valley. They choose the artists, the songs, and news and community topics they want to highlight (within FCC guidelines, of course). Think of Radio Boise as one big, freeform mixtape, made by the community for the community.
Tune in to 89.9 or 93.5 FM to hear members of your community! We also hope you hear yourself in our programming. Our radio signal flows both ways – that’s what community radio is all about.

Radio Boise commits to diverse, inclusive programming in four ways: mixing up the music across styles, eras, and traditions; hosting broadcasters who reflect Idaho's many communities; nurturing a safe place built on genuine acceptance and respect; and naming the systemic challenges, racism, LGBTQ bias, and economic inequality, that our platform can help raise awareness of. Our separate Antiracism Coalition Statement goes further into that last commitment.
Radio Boise is governed by a volunteer board of directors drawn from the community we serve, with staff and volunteer leadership handling day-to-day station operations.

The people behind the signal

Shauna Smith
Shauna has been a programmer on Radio Boise since 2023, as the co-host of the public affairs show, Communication Matters. She and her husband, Brian, a mental health counselor, talk about all things communication and feelings while giving each other a load of grief on the air. She has been a speech-language pathologist since 2005, dedicated to working with adults with cognitive and communication differences. Since 2024, she has a part-time private practice, and for fourteen years prior was a full-time Clinical Professor and Clinic Director at Idaho State University in the speech-language pathology graduate program. In 2025, she also became the Executive Director for the Idaho Counseling Association. Shauna has been an Idahoan her entire life and believes in giving back to ensure that everyone in the community has a voice, literally and figuratively. Radio Boise, a voice for all in the community, has been the perfect fit as a haven of community advocacy. As a member of the board, she hopes to help the station continue to grow and be a voice for all, known by all, and heard by all. Besides enjoying all things Radio Boise, Shauna also enjoys cooking, camping, writing, wine tasting, and having adventures with Brian and their little boy.

Wayne Birt
Wayne is a hopeless radiophile, having been a student programmer at student-run KBSU in the 80s, then working commercially at Boise station KIDO, before joining the Radio Boise effort in 2005. Besides his role with Radio Boise, Wayne has an MFA in Creative Writing from Eastern Washington University, has published a handful of short stories and is prone to unreasonably long backpacking and rock climbing trips. He calls it his long-range therapy for his longstanding pathology for community radio.

Rob grew up in the swamps of Florida before beginning his legal career in Alaska where he also co-hosted a radio show on AM community radio. Rob has had a lifetime passion for music and community and has been thrilled to serve on the Radio Boise board.

Hilary Rayhill
Boise Community Radio has been a long time companion in the Rayhill household. From the days before the airwaves Radio Boise has been a part of her life. As the Radio community has grown and her children worked their way toward independence Hilary now has the time to be able to give back what the radio station has given to her. Before joining the board at KRBX Hilary was a river guide on the Middle Fork of the Salmon river, a pediatric intensive care nurse and now a school nurse at Garfield Elementary, not to mention raising two kids with her wonderful husband. Hilary hopes to use this opportunity to help foster community and great music at Boise Community Radio.

Sarah Faires
"I grew up in a small town in central Idaho, where community meant everything—and it still does today. As a single mom of two amazing special needs kids and a cancer survivor, I’ve learned that strength is found in connection, compassion, and never giving up. Outside of my work as a real estate broker and coach, I’m passionate about giving back. Whether it’s serving on the board of this nonprofit, advocating for families, or simply sharing encouragement, I believe in lifting others through both challenges and triumphs. When I’m not working or volunteering, you’ll likely find me whitewater rafting, enjoying live music, or simply soaking up the small joys that make life extraordinary."

Taylor Baldwin
Taylor is a lifelong music lover who believes music has a unique way of bringing people together and building community. As a board member of Radio Boise, Taylor is excited to support a station that celebrates independent music, creativity, and shared listening experiences that connect people across the Treasure Valley. Taylor is married to his wife, Hailey, and together they’re raising their 3-year-old son, Will. Outside of Radio Boise, Taylor enjoys spending time outdoors—especially fly fishing—and finds a lot of inspiration and balance in nature.
